Helping children learn

} If too much supervision is as bad as not enough, how can parents help children study? By giving them tips and hints for learning, also called cognitive strategies. A cognitive strategy is a kind of “trick” we consciously apply to attain a learning goal, a mental maneuver that we use in order to learn some- thing. For example, when given someone’s telephone number, we can recite the digits to ourselves using a rhythm that helps us remember them, or when someone is telling us a good joke, imagine ourselves telling it to someone else.
